Die hier veröffentlichten Daten dienen dem Zweck der jährlichen Treibhaugas-Berichterstattung Nordrhein-Westfalens in Form einer Quellbilanz nach den IPCC-Guidelines; festgelegt durch das Klimaschutzgesetz NRW. Datengrundlagen für die Aufbereitung sind die Emissionsberichte der emissionshandelspflichtigen Anlagen der DEHSt, Emissionserklärung nach 11. BImSchV, Emissionsdaten des Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Instituts, Berichte aus dem Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers, LANUK-eigene Emissionskataster, das Nationale Inventardokument des Umweltbundesamts sowie weitere Statistiken, wie Energiebilanzen oder Produktionsstatistiken.
