Geospatial data of JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” forest infrastructure

As “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) forest roads, large culverts and bridges, planned forest roads, turning pitches, culverts, road equipment, transport shifts, exits, ditches, drainage systems and renewable drainage objects. Forest road is a merchant road constructed according to technical parameters with a blanket or a road without a blanket, which ensures forest management and is operable for timber removal. There are more than 4,000 roads in the data layer, with a total length of more than 12 000 km. But the geospatial data layer of forest roads to be developed contains information on forest roads that are planned for renovation, reconstruction or construction in the period from 2018 to 2022. It includes more than 900 lined objects. The geospatial data layer of bridges and large culverts contains information about the engineering structures under the responsibility of LVM. It includes more than 200 point objects — bridges and culverts. The turning area shall be the space enabling the vehicle with a semi-trailer to turn in the direction of travel opposite to that of the vehicle. Trimmings are divided by type — circular turning area and T-shaped turning area. The culvert is a structure that provides a flow of water drains or water courses. Culverts can be built under a forest motorway and exits or on a ditch detachment. The attribute table contains information on the length and diameter of the culvert. Forest road equipment includes road signs, signal barriers, repellent barriers, signal bars and open wooden gates. Road equipment ensures the improvement of vehicle traffic safety. The place of change is an extension of the road carriageway, which ensures the change of two opposite-coming vehicles. The exit is an element of the carriageway of a forest road, which ensures the departure of the vehicle from the main road. Exits have been built at intersections of quarters and places where the forest motorway intersects with natural carriageways in the forest. Forest drainage system is a set of specialised structures and devices for regulating water regime in forest lands. The geospatial data layers of JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” contain information on the infrastructure objects in the company’s possession.
