Protected habitats - habitats

The requirements for habitat protection in Latvia are laid down in the Law on the Conservation of Species and Habitats (adopted by the Saeima on 16 March 2000), which is based on Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora and Directive 2009/147/EC on the conservation of wild birds. In accordance with this Law, lists of specially protected habitats have been drawn up (https://likumi.lv/ta/id/291790). This list includes habitats traditionally protected in Latvia, as well as habitats protected under the Species and Habitats Directive. The list of specially protected habitats in Latvia includes 93 habitats, the list has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. All information is available in digital form with a link to the Latvian coordinate system LKS-92.
