Dataset description

Strategic noise maps are drawn up in order to assess the overall exposure to noise from different environmental noise sources or to determine an overall environmental noise forecast for a given area. Cabinet Regulation No 16 of 7 January 2014 on the procedure for noise assessment and management states that the Latvian Environmental, Geological and Meteorological Centre (LVĢMC) is responsible for compiling and reporting the noise information produced to the European Environment Agency and for publishing and maintaining the list of organisations responsible for drawing up strategic noise maps on the LVĢMC website. The institutions responsible for and ensuring the development and approval of strategic noise maps and relevant action plans are the Housing and Environment Department of the Riga City Council and the Ministry of Transport.
