Lithuanian National Atlas (Volume II)

Volume II of the National Atlas of Lithuania is a cartographic publication presenting the historical developments of Lithuania in the most exhaustive and concentrated manner ever. The main goal of the publication is to present the local and global community a wide range of visual information about the historical events and processes that took place on Lithuanian territory from the early times in history to the modern day. The history of Lithuania is presented in a broad context, allowing readers to gain a clear understanding of the origins of the Lithuanian nation, the socioeconomic development of the state, and the contribution of the state to the development of European civilization in general. Volume II of the National Atlas of Lithuania consists of four main chapters covering the formation of the Lithuanian nation and state, years of occupation, and development of the independent Republic of Lithuania. The volume ends with a cartographic representation of political, social, economic, cultural and spiritual phenomena characteristic of the end of the last Soviet occupation. The most important part of this historical volume presents an exhaustive chronological compilation of events, phenomena and processes depicting historical developments. It presents major facts and explains their importance at the time of major historical events in the life of the Lithuanian nation. The historical volume of the National Atlas of Lithuania is a result of many years of research. The majority of the maps in the atlas are new original works based on archival sources and exhaustive primary statistical data. The other part of the maps has been produced based on earlier publications such as the Universal Lithuanian Encyclopedia, historical atlases, and academic monographs and articles and has been itemized based on state-of-the-art research data.
