Download service - Struve Geodetic Arc points. The data set contains all triangulation points of the geodetic arc. The Struve Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Hammerfest in Norway to the Black Sea, through ten countries and over 2,820km. These are points of a survey, carried out between 1816 and 1855 by the astronomer Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, which represented the first accurate measuring of a long segment of a meridian. The original arc consisted of 258 main triangles with 265 main station points. 34 of the original station points are listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and are marked with different markings, i.e. a drilled hole in rock, iron cross, cairns, or built obelisks. Other points are protected under national laws, as Struve Gedetic arc is not only a historic site but is also still in use today. Lithuania has 18 geodetic arc points, of which 3 are a part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The data has the following attributes: the original and the current name of the point, point creation date, administrative unit, status, type of mark, condition of the mark.
