Diagnoses associated with hospitalisations National Basic Registration Hospital Care (02-01-2013-01-01-2018)

This file contains the diagnoses recorded in hospitalisations in Dutch hospitals of persons registered in the Basic Registration Persons (BRP). The data comes from the National Basic Registration of Hospital Care (LBZ) of Dutch Hospital Data (DHD). More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology The data on diagnoses associated with hospitalisations come from the National Basic Register of Hospital Care (LBZ). Hospitalisations (LBZBASISJJJJ) and associated diagnoses (LBZDIAGNOSENJJJJ) are linked to the Basic Registration Persons (BRP) based on Citizen Service Number (BSN) pseudonyms and for a small part based on the combination of date of birth, gender and postcode. The final efficiency (after verification and correction) of the BRP coupling of LBZ shots is 97.3 % in 2013, 99.1 % in 2014, 99.5 % in 2015 and 2016, and 99.6 % in 2017. In LBZBASISJJJJ and LBZDIAGNOSENJJJJJJY, only the recordings or diagnoses in these recordings of the LBZ recordings associated with the BRP are displayed. As a Person ID, the variable RINPERSOON is added to the files, a meaningless and dimensionless number, which can be used to link to other CBS SSB files. Furthermore, the diagnoses from this file (LBZDIAGNOSENJJJJ) can be linked to the corresponding recording in LBZBASISJJJJ through the variable LBZID recording. One recording record in LBZBASISJJJY may have multiple associated diagnostic records in LBZDIAGNOSENJJJJ. The different diagnosis records are identified by the variable LBZIddiag. The extent to which hospitals register in addition to primary diagnosis(s) and other (even) diagnoses may differ between hospitals and over the years. Overall, the registration of secondary diagnoses in the LBZ (and its predecessor the LMR) has increased significantly in recent years, especially since 2010. Some of the hospitalisations are not fully registered in the LBZ: these recordings are recorded as incomplete records in LBZBASISJJJJY (recognised by variable LBZFlagincomplete). In these incomplete records, the diagnoses are not recorded. CBS has the missing information in these incomplete recordings & #039; imputated ' i.e. the values of the variables concerned have been taken from a fully recorded record that resembles the incomplete record as much as possible. In the imputation procedure, a complete recording record is sought with equal recording specialism, care type and gender, with a & distance function ' a most similar record is chosen, using the variables age, whether or not death in hospital, migration background from BRP, type of hospital, duration of admission and urgency of admission. Then, from the matched complete admission, the diagnostic information is taken (imputed) into the incomplete admission. The values imputed with the incomplete records are displayed in the file in the variables with the suffix &imp ' in the name and are thus distinguishable from the actual recorded variables. If in the LBZDIAGNOSENJJJY file the variables with suffix &imp ' filled then this is an incomplete recording record and then the same variables are without suffix &imp ' not filled in this file. Please note that the imputated variables are not suitable for use in (longitudinal) examination of recordings of individuals; these are not real data. For cross-ectional research at a sufficiently aggregated level, these imputed variables can be used. ### Population Diagnoses recorded during admissions in all general and academic Dutch hospitals and in two short stay categorical hospitals (cancer clinic and eye hospital). Data on the corresponding hospitalisation are included in the file LBZBASISYYYY; furthermore, the LBZBASISJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ has been registered as the main diagnosis of the admission.In the LBZDIAGNOSENJJJJJ file, all diagnoses recorded at hospitalisations have been recorded, including the secondary diagnoses. These are diagnoses recorded in daytime admissions, clinical shots and from 2015 also in & long-term observations without overnight stay '. This file contains only diagnoses associated with hospitalisations linked to the BRP (see 'Used methodology ' for more details).
