Dataset description

This file contains all neighbour and neighbor relations of individuals who are registered on 1 January YYYY in the Personal Records Database (BRP) who have a known residential address and do not live in an institutional household. The basis for the derivation of these network relations are the GBAADRESOBJECTYYYBUSVV, VSLCOORDYYYYTABVV and the GBAHUISHOUDENSYYYBUSVV. This file is not suitable to reproduce official population numbers on 1 January according to Statline. For this purpose, the component GBASTANDPOPULATIONYYYYTABVV must be used. This file is part of a network file set. This network file set also contains the following files: COLLEGANETWORKYYYYTABVV, FAMILYNETWORKYYYYTABVV, HOUSEGENOTENNETWORKYYYYTABVV and CLASSGENOTENNETWORKYYYTABVV. These files have the same structure. With this network layer it should be emphasized that it cannot be said that the neighbors and neighbors who are distracted in this file actually have contact with each other. They can be seen as a reservoir of potential contacts. The neighbor network layer is composed as well as possible on the basis of logical assumptions and available data. It contains assumptions, artifacts, and noise. They are suitable for many research purposes, but not for statistics or counts of numbers of relationships. For example, you can't make statistics about how many neighbors someone has. The number of neighbours is capped (see methodology used). For some research questions, the limitations of the files will be more relevant than for others. Much of the noise is mediated on a large (research) scale. But in all cases it is important that researchers who work with the data take due account of the underlying derivation rules, and if in doubt consult a CBS expert in the field of these networks. More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/en-en/our-services/custom-and-microdata/microdata-self-research ### Methodology A neighbor is defined as a person at one of the ten nearest addresses. There is no maximum distance. All persons residing at these addresses are registered as neighbours. If there are more addresses at an equal distance from the person in position ten, the desired number of addresses is chosen randomly from the addresses in position ten. When determining the distance between the residential address of the person and the residential addresses of the potential neighbors, height differences are not taken into account. Persons living in flats therefore have as the closest living persons the households that live directly below or directly above them. To distract neighbors, first circle with a radius of 200 meters around the address of the person is determined. Then, randomly 20 people living at an address in that circle are selected as neighbors. If fewer than 20 people live within a 200-meter radius of the person's address, the person has fewer than 20 neighbors. In the distraction of the neighbor network, people who do not have a residential address are not included. Residents of institutional households with more than 10 persons, such as care homes or prisons, are not included in the derivation of the neighbourly relations. Often the contact between these households and neighbors is limited. The inclusion of these households could also significantly increase the number of neighbours, because institutional households often have a large number of people living at one address. These people are included in the distraction of neighborly relationships. Each record in this file covers one relation of one RINPERSON. Because neighbors are derived from the 10 nearest addresses for everyone, each person has at least 10 neighbor relationships. The neighbor network is not symmetrical. This means that person B can appear in the neighbor network of person A, but person A does not have to appear in the neighbor network of person B. This has to do with the random selection of neighbors and with neighbors in the case of an equal distance from addresses on the cut-off point of 10 neighbors. ### Population This file contains all neighbour and neighbour relations of individuals who are registered in the BRP on 1 January YYYY who have a known residential address and do not live in an institutional household. This file is not suitable to reproduce official population numbers on 1 January according to Statline. For this purpose, the component GBASTANDPOPULATIONYYYYTABVV must be used.

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

api.store is built and operated by Apitalks s.r.o. Company details and a direct contact path are linked in the footer for vendor checks and procurement review.
Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
