Periods of cohabitation of persons registered in the Basic Register of Persons (BRP) who form a couple living together (from 01-01-1995)

Relates to linked persons who have (ever) formed a cohabiting couple at one address for a continuous period of time. Of these cohabiting couples, the starting date, the reason for the start of the cohabitation period, the possible end date and the reason for the end of the cohabitation period is included. In addition, a weighting factor has been included to make a better estimate of the number of starting relationships. The bus is intended to be able to retrieve information about partners in a cohabiting couple. Couples living together include both married and non-married couples. Each person occurs twice per cohabitation period on the bus. Once as a person and once as a partner of a person. If one does research into starting and ending cohabitations and cohabitation, you use this bus component. No other SSB component provides better information on the duration of cohabitation relationships. The GBAPARTNERBUS is very similar to the GBASAMENWONERBUS. The GBAPARTNERBUS shows households pairs. In addition, GBAPARTNERBUS is suitable to determine the number of persons in cohabiting couples at the juncture YYYY or YYYY-1, the GBASAMENWONERBUS provides a less good estimate there. This is due to the methodology used which results in an underestimation of the number of cohabitants for the most recent reporting years. To be typed as partners in a cohabiting couple, help information has been used. This assistance information concerns: — marriage of a person with a partner; — a joint child of two parents; — the joint transfer of two persons from the same address to the same address; — as a partner in a couple obtaining care allowance, rent allowance or a joint provisional assessment for the tax authorities. This information has been used for all periods that the couples thus identified live or have lived together at one address. Information about the present is also derived from the future data. If, for example, 2 persons in year t+ 3 have a joint child then, if these persons live in year t at the same address, it can already be determined that these persons form a cohabiting couple. This type of information has been consistently applied. This method gives very good results as regards the identification of cohabiting couples and also of the start of a cohabitation period and its end. (See the annex to this data design containing the results of the component acceptance test (acceptance test_cohabitersfile.pdf). Only for recent reporting years, year YYYY, YYYY-1 and YYYY-2, this method provides an underestimation of the number of cohabitation starting, due to a lack of information on what people are going to do in the future. For this reason, a higher factor has been determined for statistical purposes. For research purposes specific to starting cohabitation relationships there will be selective perception (cohabitations without a marriage or partnership are less often observed). For cohabitation relationships that end, this selective observation does not apply. The effect of selective observation on the total number of cohabitants in YYYY or YYYY-1 is relatively very limited. Differences with the PARTNERBUS: The SAMENWONERBUS is designed to identify couples who have a marriage-like relationship. There are different pairs than in the PARTNERBUS, no pairs imputated. The PARTNERBUS is based on couples labeled in the HOUSE BUSINESS (with the same help information used for the SAMENWONERSBUS) as partners in a pair. The PARTNERBUS also includes couples who do not (think of people who share a home for cost reasons) have a marriage-like relationship. The SAMENWONERBUS provides better information about all periods in which an identified couple lives together. Periods of less than 46 days in which, according to the register, the partners are temporarily not living together at an address. ### Population Includes all persons registered as from 1 January 1995 in the Basic Register of Persons (BRP) who form or have formed a cohabiting couple at one address for a continuous period.
