<p>"Statystyka" Andrzeja Grabianki związana jest bezpośrednio z przygotowaniami do reformy włościańskiej w Rosji w 1861 r. Porażka Cesarstwa w wojnie krymskiej i wstąpienie na tron Aleksandra II otworzyło drogę do przeprowadzenia koniecznych zmian na wsi. "Statystykę" sporządzono jako niezbędne narzędzie do przygotowania projektu reformy dla trzech guberni ukraińskich: kijowskiej, podolskiej i wołyńskiej. Musiała zawierać podstawowe informacje pozwalające na określenie liczby i charakteru poddanych (chłopów) i powierzchni gruntów pozostających w użytkowaniu dworu i wsi. Dane te umożliwiały ustalenie wielkości planowanego nadziału ziemi w poszczególnych gospodarstwach. Dla różnych kategorii chłopów przewidziano działki o różnej powierzchni. Chłopi dysponujący własnym sprzężajem byli w sytuacji uprzywilejowanej. Ale przydział ziemi uzależniony był także od struktury użytków w danym gospodarstwie i charakteru gleby. </p>
