Download land cover data

The spatial data set LCCS-RO included in the theme "Land Coverage" / "Land Coverage" was made at ICPA Bucharest and ASR/ROSA through the interpretation of aerial digital images (orthophoto). The classification used, called LCCS, was developed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and ensures interoperability worldwide, including at the level of the European Union. For a clear delineation from the INSPIRE theme "Land use", the GEMET Thesaurus defines "Land cover/Land cover" exclusively as "Physical and biological land cover, including artificial surfaces, agricultural areas, forests, (semi-)natural areas, wetlands and water bodies". Also to avoid uncertainties, we specify that the division of land by categories of official use in Romania is based on both INSPIRE criteria for classification in "Land Coverage" / "Land Coverage" and in "Land Use". Therefore, in INIS there will have to be correspondence between the interoperable classifications of "Land Cover" / "Land Cover" (LCCS and CORINE Land Cover) and the categories of use used at national level. In order to achieve this correspondence, the classification of land in use categories will first need to be updated according to the actual situation on the land in the databases of the competent authorities (National Institute of Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, etc.).
