Lakes

The ‘Lakes’ data set represents the digital format, polygon type, of the natural and accumulation lakes in Romania included in the ‘Romanian Hydrographic Map, scale 1:100.000’, with improvements, amendments and additions. This map is included in the ‘Atlas of the water cadastre in Romania’, printed in 1992 and produced by Aquaproject in collaboration with the ‘Romanian Waters’ Autonomous Authority (RAAR), the territorial branches of the ‘Romanian Waters’ Autonomous Authority, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INMH), the Institute of Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Territorial Organisation (IGFCOT), the Institute of Geography (IG), the Institute of Forest Research and Planning (ICAS). Natural lakes larger than or equal to 25 ha are inventoried, except for the well-known alpine lakes or important spa lakes. The main lakes in Romania contain information about the type of lake according to the genesis of the vat and the volume. Several types of natural lakes have been identified by the genesis of their vat: karst, glacial, volcanic crater, compaction, natural dam, nivostructural, excavation, abandoned or meandering arm, crov, between dunes, meadow or delta, river, sea or river-sea harbor and lagoon. For natural lakes in the Danube Delta are inventoried natural lakes equal to or greater than 50 ha and well-known lakes less than 25 ha. Inventory reservoirs are those that meet one of two conditions: the height of the dam is greater than or equal to 10 m or the volume of the reservoir is greater than or equal to 1 million cubic metres.
