Second Modernization in Jesenice Gymnasiums

Students of the Jesenice Gymnasium come from Jesenice and its surroundings, whose socio-economic development in the past was mostly defined by the development of the Jesenice Ironworks. In the last ten years, the area has been faced with a severe iron crisis, high unemployment. The values of young people are torn between the value system of traditional industrial society and the declining iron industry on the one hand, and the impact of post-industrial modernization of the wider environment on the other. The aim of the research thesis was to study the responses of students of Gimnazija Jesenice who completed their schooling at Gimnazija in 2001 to social and living conditions from the point of view of their personal value system. The authors were mainly interested in the extent to which the processes of the second modernization have already reached the Jesenice high school students.
