Flash data — real-time

The service delivers information about lightning discharges in Sweden. When a lightning discharge has occurred and the information has reached SMHI, the information is passed on with “push” technology via web-sockets until the users of the service. It takes about 20 seconds before the information becomes available. The information includes: Time (UTC time), country code, position, reference system (EPSG:4326), peakCurrent and cloud Indicator. In order to ensure that the service is running, idle traffic is generated in the form of a test item with the same appearance but with the country code ZZ. The discharges have been calculated in the lightning information computational server using observations made in automatic lightning localisation sensors. DELIVERY: The push service for flash data is accessed via web service for delivery fee. Data shall be stored before further use. Send an e-mail to [email protected] for order. COORDINATES: Data is delivered for Sweden. USE: At SMHI, flash data is used in the alert service and investigations. FORMAT: Data is delivered in JSON format.
